Vermont State Police have announced that David C. Denny, 41, of Rutland will be charged with second-degree murder in the death of Linda Wiggin, his one-time girlfriend.
Denny will be arraigned in Rutland Court this afternoon, but due to heavy court traffic, an exact time is not known.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has completed the autopsy of Wiggin and has ruled her death a homicide, police said.
Denny was originally held and was expected to answer to a charge of violation of his probation.
Wiggin was reported missing Sunday and police found her body in the basement of her home at 186 College St. in Poultney.
Denny was named a "person of interest" by police searching for Wiggin and said they had been looking for Denny, who was last seen leaving Wiggin's home Sunday.
Police located Denny in Brandon on Tuesday evening.
