BARRE - The Vermont Historical Society is canceling the 2009 Vermont History Expo because of financial woes caused by the current economic slowdown and other considerations.
The Historical Society's Tess Taylor says the History Expo's nine-year run at the Tunbridge Fairgrounds has been well received, but it costs about $90,000 and uses a lot of staff time.
The goal is to bring the Expo back in 2010.
Taylor says that thousands of Vermonters, and "Vermonters at Heart" have been treated to two days of exhibitions by local historical societies, performers, history presenters, traditional trades people and other exhibits.
She says the decision to cancel the 2009 Expo will help the Historical Society keep other programs on track.
