MONTPELIER — A recent state survey says the number of Vermonters without health insurance is continuing to go down.
Despite rising unemployment and the economic downturn, the survey done for the department of Banking, Insurance, Securities and Health Care Administration found that 7.6 percent of Vermonters lack health insurance, down from 9.8 percent in 2005.
Vermont's state-sponsored Catamount Health is available to Vermonters who are otherwise uninsured.
Peter Sterling of the Vermont Campaign for Health Care Security Education Fund says Vermonters will need these programs more and more as people lose their jobs.
The survey means that almost 14,000 more people have insurance.
