MANCHESTER — Grants are available to support innovative local programs dedicated to fighting breast cancer through the Vermont-New Hampshire Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Nonprofit organizations in Vermont and New Hampshire may apply for the grants, which last up to one year, for breast health, breast cancer education, outreach, screening and treatment projects, especially those that target the medically underserved.
The Komen Vermont-New Hampshire affiliate will give priority to projects that address the needs of women with low incomes or problems associated with reaching people in rural areas.
Last year, the affiliate awarded a record $500,000 in grants to almost 20 community breast cancer prevention initiatives including community support groups, integrative care programs and the production of educational materials.
The annual Komen VT-NH Race for the Cure, the primary source of funding for the affiliate, is scheduled to take place July 26 at Hildene Meadows in Manchester Village.
Applications and more information are available on the Internet at the Web site, www.vtnhcure.org, or by calling the local office at 362-2733. The deadline for grant applications is Jan. 30.
