RUPERT — Two teens from Vermont and New York are facing charges after an alleged drunken driving crash Wednesday.

At 7:18 a.m., state police responded to Sandgate Road in Rupert to investigate a report of a drunken driver stuck in the road.

When police arrived, they found the car but no driver or passenger, police said, but a witness told police a neighbor had given those in the car a ride home.

Police later found Nathan G. Bauscher, 18, of Rupert, at a residence in Sandgate. Bauscher reportedly told police he had been driving on Sandgate Road at 4 a.m. when he struck a tree.

Police charged Bauscher with drunken driving, and a breath test showed he had a blood alcohol count of 0.13, police said, higher than the Vermont driving limit of 0.08.

Police released Bauscher with a citation to appear Jan. 20 in Bennington District Court.

Police also charged Bauscher's passenger, Michael S. Ryan, 18, of Cambridge, N.Y., with being minor in possession of alcohol after they allegedly found Ryan to have a blood alcohol count of 0.135.

Police released Ryan with a citation to appear Jan. 27 in Bennington District Court.
