COLCHESTER — The president of Vermont Public Radio is leaving.

The station announced Tuesday that Mark Vogelzang will resign effective Feb. 1.

Vogelzang will be replaced by Robin Turnau, a 20-year Vermont Public Radio veteran.

The 53-year-old Vogelzang has led VPR since 1993. He is credited with expanding Vermont Public Radio into two distinct FM networks, one a news and information service, the other devoted to classical music.

The organization says its per capita listenership is consistently among the top 10 in the country.

Vogelzang plans to help raise money for public radio across the country.

The 43-year-old Turnau is VPR's vice president of development. She has worked at VPR since 1989.

READER COMMENTS

Vogelzang's management of VPR has surely resulted in fund-raising excellence, but Vogelzang's VPR has failed We The People (Read: the Public of Vermont Public Radio, those thousands of listeners who petitioned VPR)by refusing to provide air time to the award-winning Democracy Now!: the daily, non-corporate sponsored, truly independent news program carried nationwide on many other NPR affiliate stations. Watch him raise money for NPR, but be wary of the donors he selects.
