Rutland school administrators will present the city's School Board with five options for spending plan reductions at a deliberation meeting at 7 p.m. today in the Longfellow Building at 6 Church St.

For fiscal year 2010, the school budget proposal currently stands at $45.2 million, a 5 percent increase compared to last year.

If cuts aren't made, the homestead tax rate will jump from $1.24 per $100 of assessed property value to $1.28 as a result of the spending plan, even though the district's spending is down and revenues are up 11 percent.

The amount of money the district receives from the state Education Fund will also increase 1 percent to $26.8 million, if the plan currently on the table is approved by the board Jan. 27.

The 11-member board is also scheduled to consider presenting voters with a 15-year, $1.4 million energy performance contract question on their March ballots. The contract will include expenditures for high-efficiency lighting, weatherization and insulation in school buildings.
