In July, the Rutland Southwest Supervisory Union, the administrative arm of schools in Poultney, Tinmouth, Wells and Middletown Springs, will be led by a new superintendent — Manchester Center's Joan Paustian.
The Union Board unanimously voted to hire Paustian at a meeting Monday night, agreeing to a three-year contract beginning July for a starting salary of $103,000, according to information from interim Superintendent Thomas Gallagher.
Paustian has served as a school administrator in Vermont for more than 20 years and has served as principal in Pownal and Sunderland, according to Gallagher.
Due to Paustian's experience in the field, Gallagher announced he will not act as a mentor to the incoming district leader as previously planned. The district budgeted $80,000 for Gallagher to act in the transitional position through the end of the school year.
