Today's the deadline to enter the 10th annual Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Department NASCAR Race Pool, a local fantasy race car contest with proceeds going toward the town's volunteer fire rescue squad.
Contestants have a chance of winning a grand prize of $4,000 and must sign up online one hour before the start of the Daytona 500, scheduled to begin at about 3:40 p.m. today.
Applications can also be dropped off at the home of organizer Mark Stewart, 5246 Dodge Road, Cuttingsville.
The entry fee of $30 is tax-deductible. Last year, the race pool drew 932 players from around the country.
