A West Rutland teenager is facing charges following a crash in Rutland Town, according to Vermont State Police.

Police said Brittany Fitzgerald, 18, of West Rutland, was cited to appear in Rutland District Court on charges of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.

Police said they responded to a call at 4 a.m. Saturday of an accident at the intersection of Business Route 4 and East Proctor Road. They said Fitzgerald's white Honda Accord straddled an island divider, having hit two sign poles before she left the scene in the car, driving to a residence in Proctor.

The car sustained such damage to the front end, police said, that the bumper was ripped off, leaving the license plate behind. Police said the Vermont Department of Liquor Control found Fitzgerald and the car in Proctor.
