Three people pleaded not guilty in Rutland District Court on Monday to charges of providing false information to a law enforcement officer to try to deflect an investigation.
Bobbi Jo Voight, 31, of Forest Dale, allegedly lied to the police about her name after being involved in a three-car accident on Grove Street in Brandon, in front of Champlain Farms, the afternoon of March 31.
According to a police affidavit, Voight gave her name as Theresa Duprey, of Manchester, N.H., when police arrived on the scene.
She said she didn't have her identification on her because she'd quickly left her home and all her belongings in New Hampshire. Police dispatch was unable to run a driver's license or Social Security check, however, on the information she provided.
A police office then spoke on the phone with Holly Bedard of Rutland, who claimed to be Bobbi Jo Duprey, Theresa Duprey's sister. Bedard confirmed Voight's story, but also mentioned the name Bobbi Joe Voight while speaking with the officer. Shortly after, Voight's boyfriend, Glen Billings, 38, of Brandon, showed up at the scene and corroborated her story. Based on that information, Voight was released, according to police.
After running all of the names provided through a Department of Motor Vehicles records check, however, police found an active arrest warrant for Voight in Springfield and were able to obtain a photo to confirm that the woman who had claimed to be Duprey was, in fact, Bobbi Jo Voight.
Police then went to Voight's Forest Dale Road address, where she was issued a citation for providing false information before being taken to Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility on the arrest warrant. Bedard and Billings were also issued citations.
