MORETOWN – A jogger discovered the body of a 30-year-old Waitsfield woman floating in the Mad River on Wednesday morning, but police say the death is not suspicious.
Hannah Bedford was found unclothed in the river in Moretown after the jogger saw a car parked on the shoulder off Route 100B and then saw the body in the water. The jogger called police at about 8:30 a.m., said State Police Lt. Brian Miller.
Bedford's body was pushed up against a rocky outcropping, Miller said, and clothing was located at the edge of the river.
An autopsy performed Wednesday by the Office of the Medical Examiner shows that Bedford drowned, police said.
"Further investigation conducted indicates the death is not suspicious and no foul play is suspected," police said in a news release.
Police did not say what the "manner of death" was, such as an accident or a suicide.
State police, game wardens, the Washington County Sheriff's Department and Mad River Valley Ambulance responded to the scene and pulled Bedford's body from the water.
Police later loaded the body into a van, and a tow truck hauled the car away from the scene.
