Shrinking budgets and rising book costs will be eased in Mount Holly and Pawlet today when the Children's Literacy Foundation donates $4,000 in new children's books to libraries serving both towns.
About 300 children from the Mount Holly Elementary School and the Mettawee Community School in West Pawlet will head to the libraries today for the book deliveries and storytelling sessions by CLiF Director Duncan McDougall.
The Mount Holly Town Library and the Pawlet Public Library are two of six libraries in Vermont to be awarded a Rural Library Sponsorship from CLiF, part of the foundation's Rural Library Program.
The program, founded in 1998, supports 24 rural libraries throughout New Hampshire and Vermont each year, in an effort to boost the children's book collections of small libraries with the hope that increased exposure to great books and inspiring storytelling will go a long way toward improving children's literacy across both states, according to the foundation.
Mount Holly's sponsorship is made possible by a donation from the corporate foundation of Rutland's Carris Reels and Pawlet's grant was made possible by the Robert Fleming & Jane Howe Patrick Foundation.
