Police are looking for a West Rutland man who is wanted for causing a motor vehicle accident that injured his wife.

Rutland District Court Judge William Cohen on Monday issued a warrant and set bail at $1,000 for Jeremy H. Eaton, 35, who is facing misdemeanor charges of careless or negligent operation, leaving the scene of a crash and a fourth charge of operating a vehicle without a license.

State Police say Eaton was behind the wheel of a Toyota pickup on Route 4A in West Rutland last month when he slammed on the brakes and caused an accident as the car driving behind him slammed into the rear of the truck.

The woman driving the car was Eaton's wife, Belinda Briggs-Eaton, police said. She was taken to Rutland Regional Medical Center for injuries to her knee and hip.

The car she was driving suffered severe damage to its front end.

Briggs-Eaton told police she had an argument with her husband earlier in the day. When she later saw him driving the truck, she said she tried to follow the vehicle while placing a call to police to let them know her husband was driving without a license.
