Rugby girls ignored again

Again the Rutland Herald failed to give Rutland rugby its due this past weekend. The girls' U19 team won the Vermont state championship at home on Sunday, beating Saratoga, 19-17. This team called "The Little Team That Could," previously won the NERFU Northeast championship, competed in the USA Rugby Nationals in Pittsburgh, Pa., and besides being undefeated in the Northeast, is ranked eighth in the nation. While they have been covered on WCAX, ESPN "SportsCenter," and will be in USA Rugby magazine, there has been one short blurb in the Herald tucked between the high school softball scores. I know that the Herald has been contacted by numerous fans and parents about this team and has, for some reason, decided not to cover this great story of a small town team, made up of wonderful kids, from many county schools, coming together to achieve this great season. Thanks, Nick McCardle, Stephen Long, all of your staff, National Guard, and everyone else that has supported these great girls. You truly are "The Little Team That Could." Good luck in Albany at New England Select Sides.
