BENNINGTON – A Pownal man is facing more than two and a half years in prison after pleading guilty on Tuesday to a felony charge of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child.
Jamie D. Schultz, 40, also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol on Tuesday in Bennington District Court.
Bennington County Chief Deputy State's Attorney Christina Rainville said the state had entered into a plea arrangement with Schultz which called for a sentence of two to seven years in prison. All of that time would be suspended except for 30 months, Rainville said.
The charge of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child has a minimum penalty of two years in prison.
The Vermont Department of Corrections was ordered to perform a pre-sentence investigation of Schultz before his sentencing hearing, scheduled for Aug. 27.
According to an affidavit filed by Vermont State Police Detective Tyler Burgess, Schultz touched a 7-year-old girl sometime during the winter of 2007-08 in a Pownal home.
