A two-vehicle crash in wet conditions Thursday night claimed the life of a North Bennington teen.

Police said at about 4 p.m. in Pawlet, on Route 30 about 100 yards south of Towslee Hill Road, a 1994 Volvo 944 4-door driven by Ellen D. Bindman-Hicks, 17, crossed into the northbound lane in the rain, colliding with Jon A. Grimes, 43, who was traveling north in a 2008 Chevrolet 1500 pickup.

Both drivers were transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center by the Granville, N.Y. Rescue squad. Police said Bindman-Hicks died of her injuries. Grimes, of Brandon, sustained lacerations to his head and internal injuries that were non-life threatening. Both vehicles sustained major damage and police reported both drivers to be wearing seat belts.

Also responding to the scene were members of the West Pawlet and Pawlet volunteer fire departments and members of the Fair Haven Police Department.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to call Trooper Christopher Barber at 773-9101.
