STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — A Vermont truck driver has been sentenced to one to five years in the death of a woman killed by his rig as he was hauling tombstones for Memorial Day in central Pennsylvania in May 2007.

Peter Carrara, of North Clarendon, Vt., was convicted of homicide by vehicle in April.

His attorney, Brian Manchester, acknowledged Friday that his client had taken methamphetamines before his truck struck a car it was overtaking on Route 64 in Walker Township.

Carrara tearfully apologized to the family of 57-year-old Bonnie Weaver of Hollidaysburg before he was sentenced.

Manchester said he plans to appeal the verdict. He argued that the victim contributed to the crash by turning left into Carrara's path after signaling that she was turning right.
