WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — A Rockingham man is in jail on charges he repeatedly sexually assaulted a girl.
Elson B. Wright, 42, pleaded innocent last Tuesday in White River Junction District Court to felony charges of repeated aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault of a victim younger than 18.
The former charge carries a possible life sentence, and Windsor County State's Attorney Robert Sand used the weight of the charge to ask Judge Theresa DiMauro to hold Wright without bail. Sand noted multiple sworn statements from the alleged victim and her family as sufficient evidence of Wright's guilt.
The assaults allegedly began in 1992 when the girl was 5 or 6 years old and continued for eight or nine years, affidavits state, and Wright's attorney Elizabeth Kruska asked Judge DiMauro to keep in mind the age of the charges and asked for Wright's release. DiMauro said there are many reasons victims of sexual violence will keep the assaults a secret and ordered Wright held without bail.
He is being held in Springfield Prison.
