A Castleton man remains jailed after answering to charges that he pointed a gun at a woman.

Kenneth M. Hill, 44, pleaded innocent in Rutland District Court to a felony charge of aggravated domestic assault with a weapon and a misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment. Judge Thomas Zonay set bail at $50,000 for Hill, who is temporarily held without the option of posting bail due to an alleged probation violation.

Police from Castleton and Fair Haven along with state police troopers converged on Hill's home at 1841 North Road last Thursday night after a caller told police there was a man in the driveway pointing a gun at two people, according to court records.

When police arrived, they found a woman and a juvenile boy in the house. The pair told police that Hill blocked the driveway with his truck so the woman couldn't leave. Hill then produced a .22-caliber pistol, the woman and boy said, which he pointed in the woman's direction.

Hill, who the pair told police had been drinking, was disarmed by the woman and the boy who tackled him and wrestled the gun away before police arrived.

Hill allegedly fled into the woods prompting police to search for him with dogs. Hill was ultimately found asleep in a camper on the property, police said.

If convicted, Hill faces up to 16 years in jail.
