Okemo employees benefit from awards

LUDLOW — Okemo Mountain Resort has awarded $9,000 in scholarships to its employees and their families.
The nine $1,000 scholarships were awarded to students who have worked at Okemo or are dependants of Okemo employees.
Winners of the employee scholarships include Molly Harrison, who worked in The Roundhouse at the Jackson Gore base area and plans to study international relations at Boston University.
Cody Normyle worked at the Ice House skating pavilion and plans to study business at Bentley University. Sandy Roundy-Lane and Renee Seyller both worked at the Sugar House mid-mountain lodge. Roundy-Lane plans to study education at the University of New Hampshire and Seyller will study French at University of Vermont.
All four are Ludlow residents and graduated from Black River Union High School.
Four students won dependant scholarships, including Nicole Lafko of Springfield, who is studying psychology at the University of Vermont. She is the daughter of Stanley Lafko of Okemo lift operations. Chris Olesky of Ludlow is the son of Coleman Brook Tavern's Carol Laundry and he will attend the Community College of Vermont. Ben Reeves of Springfield is studying computer engineering at the Rochester Institute of Technology and is the son of Okemo Vice President of Development and Real Estate Ted Reeves. Kristen Martin of Chittenden is the daughter of Okemo Snowsports Shop's Dave Martin and plans to study international relations and foreign language at Boston University.
Eric Richardson of Chester won the John F. Mueller Scholarship Award, which is given to a student employed by Okemo or Mount Sunapee Resort who is pursuing a career in medicine. Richardson is studying nursing at the Community College of Vermont and he worked as a member of Okemo's ski patrol.
