CLARENDON — Police said a West Rutland man was under the influence when he crashed his motorcycle Saturday night.

Shortly before 7 p.m., police said, Christopher Grant, 35, was riding his 1999 Harley Davidson west on Walker Mountain Road when his bike slid on a patch of sand, sending him into the guardrail.

Grant was initially transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center and then flown to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., with lacerations to his head, neck and back pain and abrasions to his back, shoulder and leg, police said. He was listed in serious condition Sunday night, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Police said Grant was under the influence at the time of the crash and charged him with drunken driving. He is scheduled to be arraigned July 13 in Rutland District Court.

No. The crash was caused by gravel that had STILL not been swept up after this past winter. Sounds like the town is trying to squirm out from under a potential lawsuit to me. It seems incredibly irresponsible to leave such a potentially deadly hazard on such an already dangerous piece of curvy road.
