BENNINGTON – A U.S. Army contract worth more than $1 billion is expected to benefit the Plasan North America plant in Bennington.
Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corp. of Wisconsin, won a contract on Tuesday to manufacture 2,244 MRAP All Terrain Vehicles, according to the U.S Department of Defense Web site.
Plasan North America manufactures the armor and survivability system for the vehicles.
The company operates on two sites in Bennington. Plasan Carbon Composites, on Shields Drive, manufactures parts for automobiles while the Plasan North America site on Bowen Road makes armor plating for military and other vehicles.
The automotive site announced about 90 layoffs in January but the armor site has not had any layoffs.
