Traffic tie-ups draw complaints

MONTPELIER — Driving through the nation's smallest state capital is starting to feel like getting in or out of a big city at rush hour.
Road construction along U.S. Route 2 — the most heavily traveled artery through Montpelier — is being slowed both by a repaving project and construction of a new roundabout — or traffic circle — at the east end of the city.
City officials tell the Barre-Montpelier Times Argus that they're hearing complaints of people sitting stuck in traffic for up to 50 minutes.
Tie-ups are extending to several side streets that feed the Route 2 corridor, especially Berlin Street coming down from the area around the Central Vermont Medical Center.
