RUTLAND — A late-night traffic stop Friday in Rutland led to the arrest of a Clarendon woman for possession of heroin and crack cocaine, city police said.

Darleen E. Palmer, 41, was arrested and charged with possession after a traffic violation led police to stop the pickup truck she was a passenger in.

During the stop, Officer Earl Post said Palmer's behavior prompted him to ask for and receive consent to search the vehicle.

With the help of his police dog, King Bricks, Post located three bags of heroin on the ground next to the vehicle.

After obtaining a search warrant, Post said police found 5.5 grams of crack cocaine, worth about $500, on Palmer.

Palmer was taken to the Rutland jail where she is held on $50,000 bail.
