A Proctor man kicked out of a Rutland bar by a state liquor inspector is facing a trio of charges for allegedly trying to leave the bar in his car.

Donald E. Chamberlain, 42, pleaded innocent Monday to misdemeanor counts of drunken driving second offense, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest for an incident that unfolded in the middle of Evelyn Street on June 20.

City Police were called to Chaser's Bar and Grill by a liquor control inspector who told police he blocked Chamberlain from leaving the bar in his 1995 Chevrolet Beretta after ordering him to leave because of his intoxicated state. Police say the inspector blocked Chamberlain from leaving and pulled the keys from the ignition.

During the arrest, city police said they wrestled with Chamberlain, who refused all verbal requests. A blood-alcohol test taken one hour and 29 minutes after his arrest indicated a BAC of 0.127 percent. The legal limit to operate a vehicle in Vermont is 0.08 percent.

"I backed my car out and I got ready to leave. I admit that," Chamberlain told police. "Of course, I've been drinking, I was thrown out of a bar."
