BRATTLEBORO – A homeless man who told his victim that he was a member of the Latin Kings gang was arrested Saturday on charges of sexual assault and aggravated assault, according to Brattleboro Police.
William Larow, 35, will be arraigned in Brattleboro District Court this afternoon on the charges, as well as charges that he interfered with emergency services.
According to police, Larow met a woman in Brattleboro and engaged in several sexual acts with her, then threatened her with a knife and when she tried to call police, threatened to kill her and knocked the phone out of her hands.
Police said that Larow told his victim that he didn't want her calling the police because they knew he was a member of the Latin Kings.
Brattleboro Police Lt. Robert Kirkpatrick said Sunday that the investigation into the case was continuing. He said that the Latin Kings was a national gang that had known members and activity in Hartford, Conn., which is about 90 minutes south of Brattleboro.
"At this point, we are still investigating and there's a possibility there will be more charges against him," Kirkpatrick said.
The police lieutenant said that while Larow is saying he is homeless, he is originally from Massachusetts, and he said that Brattleboro police had "dealt with him before," while declining to say how.
"I can't go into that. That's still part of the investigation," he said.
Larow is being held at the Brattleboro lockup for lack of $25,000 cash bail.
