Keep aging bones strong

Today, I'd like to share some basic information about osteoporosis and also a complete listing of the places and times for the many Bone Builders classes in our county.
As you most likely already know, osteoporosis is a condition in which bone density deteriorates. Bone density peaks at about age 30 and then begins a slow and gradual decline as a normal part of the aging process. Of the 28 million people who experience the condition, 22 million are women and 6 million are men. There are 1.5 million fractures and 40,000 deaths associated with osteoporosis per year.
RSVP's Bone Builders Program can be part of the proactive fight against osteoporosis because its weight training and balance exercises increase muscular strength, balance and bone density. Studies have shown that elderly women who participated in a weight training program twice weekly for a year gained an average of 1 percent of bone density, whereas a control group lost 2 percent to 2.5 percent over the same time period.
All Bone Builders classes are free, so why not give the program a try? Here is the Rutland County schedule.
