Killington commissioners charged with approving expenses for the town's Economic Development & Tourism Department voted Tuesday morning to allow the department to spend $25,000 of local option tax money on real estate, according to Town Manager Kathleen Ramsay.
Department and other town officials have kept mum on what property the town is putting the money toward but according to Ramsay, the information will be made public at a meeting of the Town Select Board Monday on Aug. 24.
Resident and local business owner Steve Durkee and Ramsay will finalize the real estate contract by meeting time, Ramsay said Tuesday.
Last week, Select Board Chairman Jim Blackman said the town and the EDT are interested in the property for its own entertainment venue — a site that would host a myriad of town events, from craft fairs to concerts and hiking and biking paths and eventually a Killington Arts Center, a more than 100-seat structure.
