BRANDON — The Brandon Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a forum tonight on a proposed shopping center off Route 7.

The chamber announced the developer will answer questions from the public at 7 p.m. at the Brandon Senior Citizens Center.

Richard Baker announced last year that he intended to build a grocery store and possibly other retail businesses on property he owns at the corner of Nickerson Road and Route 7. Residents debated the idea at a forum last year that Baker did not attend.

None None, Brandon House of Pizza is very good, and Brent Wetmore at Crosbys does a great job. I also like Aubuchons and Blue Seal. But its tough when a person has to drive to Rutland for essentials...

I heard that besides grocery store, there would also be a Target store. This would be huge. A retailer of that size and stature would attract traffic from a large portion of the state to Brandon. I greatly favor the increase in the tax base such stores would bring, not to mention the jobs that are leaving this area need to be replaced. Ask former employees of Vermont Tubbs and other large employers that still don't have full time jobs if they would like to work again full time with benefits.
In addition to the retail stores, there could be space available to consolodate the local artists in a consignment store to showcase what Brandon is all about.

I go out of my way to get pizza at the brandon house of pizza, good stuff. As well as the small engines shop right down the road next to the church, they do great work. So as I agree with you Colleen there are too many arts and crafts store, if you guys took some time to get in there instead of driving through you would find more then you think.

Yay! Now we can get some more artists! Its a great thing during a recession to have lots and lots of artists standing around being artsy and making lots and lots of art! Instead of something that people need- like a chair, or some vegetables, or a pair of socks....

Seriously, though, Brandon needs stores and businesses that carry something that regular people can afford and actually need on a day to day basis. It used to be a pretty fun town to shop, live and hang out with friends- now its pretty much a drive through. Maybe a new grocery would make it a destination town, geared toward the folks who live here year round?
