Pickup crash report leads to DUI3 charge

ARLINGTON – A Sunderland man is facing his third charge of driving under the influence of alcohol after he was cited following a one-vehicle accident on Maple Hill Road on Sept. 26.
Chad A. Millette, 37, pleaded not guilty in Bennington District Court on Tuesday to a felony charge driving under the influence of alcohol. According to court records, Millette was previously convicted of the charge in Vermont is September 1995 and December 1997.
In an affidavit, Vermont State Police Trooper Tim Newton said he was called to the scene of an accident in Arlington around 5:30 a.m. Sept. 26. Millette's pickup had left the road and hit a utility pole. Millette told police he was not injured.
Newton said Millette said he had swerved to avoid hitting a deer.
According the affidavit, Millette's blood alcohol content around 8:35 a.m. was 0.126 percent. The legal limit in Vermont is 0.08 percent.
Millette was released without bail but ordered to check in with the Manchester Police Department on a daily basis. He is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 18.
