LUDLOW — A Brownsville man with three prior drunken driving convictions is facing the possibility of prison time after police said he was driving Thursday with a blood alcohol content more than twice the legal limit.

Shortly before 7 p.m., police arrested Jacob B. Pierce, 44, for drunken driving, fourth offense. A breath test revealed Pierce had a blood alcohol content of .188, police said.

According to police, Pierce has three prior convictions between Vermont and Florida, and the newest charge is a felony that carries maximum penalty of five years in prison.

Police released Pierce with a citation to appear Nov. 17 in White River Junction District Court.

Vermont Legislature starts up in January. Maybe it's time they passed a law: One citing of drunk driving 30 days, NO suspension, second drunk driving 90 days. Anything past that is a ration for every point you're over the legal limit of .08 = 120 days. That's it. No deals, no plea bargins Alcoholics come in all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds. A white collar workerbee who hasn't figured out he/she has a drinking problem will surely do so after spending 60 days in prison.

This man is an alchoholic and I hope he gets the help he needs so he doesn't climb right back into the bottle. He should have some jail time to dry out.

Arrested on a fourth DWI and he faces the POSSIBILITY of jail time. Vermont is one screwed up place. He should be facing MANDATORY jail time. Before he kills or cripples somebody.
