A car crash in Danby early Halloween morning resulted in two girls being taken to the hospital and their father charged with a fourth drunk driving charge, according to police.
At about 12:05 a.m. Saturday, state police responded to a one-car crash on Danby Hill Road in Danby involving a Subaru Legacy and a utility pole.
The car struck the pole, broke a resident's fence and damaged a tree, according to police.
Dispatchers told police the driver had run away toward the town's village, leaving two children in the vehicle.
Troopers arrived and found two girls — age 6 and 10 — in the car uninjured.
The girls told police the man driving was their father, Larry W. Morris, 38.
The children were released to their mother and grandmother, taken to Rutland hospital and later released without injury.
State police, with the help of the Rutland County Sheriff's Department, searched for Morris in a home where he was believed to be staying and instead, arrested another unidentified man for driving under the influence.
Later, police returned to the home and found Morris in an upstairs bathroom, according to police.
At the Rutland state police barracks, a sample of Morris' breath revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.169 — more than double the legal limit. The limit for driving in Vermont is 0.08.
Morris was charged with his fourth DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a criminally suspended license and cruelty to children under the age of 10 by a person over the age of 16.
