Bruins skate to 4-2 victory over Sabres

BOSTON — Mark Recchi and Zdeno Chara scored first-period power-play goals as the goal-starved Boston Bruins halted a rough stretch with a 4-2 win over Buffalo on Saturday night, sending the Sabres to their first consecutive losses of the season.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Bruins, who had scored just once in their previous three games — that coming with 52 seconds remaining in regulation of a 2-1 shootout loss to Montreal in its last game on Thursday.



Flyers 2, Blues 1, SO

PHILADELPHIA — Mika Pyorala scored in the shootout to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night.



Predators 3, Kings 1

LOS ANGELES — Francis Boullion, Cody Franson and Joel Ward scored to lead the Nashville Predators to a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.



Lightning 3, Canadiens 1

MONTREAL — Ryan Malone and Alex Tanguay each had a goal and an assist to lead the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 3-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night.

James Wright also scored for Tampa Bay, which went 2-0-1 after dropping the opener of a four-game road trip at Philadelphia on Monday.



Blue Jackets 3, Hurricanes 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Rick Nash scored the Columbus Blue Jackets' third goal in a 2:41 span of the third period to beat Carolina 3-2 Saturday night, the Hurricanes' franchise-record 12th consecutive game without a win.



Capitals 7, Panthers 4

WASHINGTON — Tomas Fleischmann scored twice during a five-goal third period, and the Washington Capitals beat the Florida Panthers 7-4 Saturday night for a sweep of their home-and-home series.



Islanders 6, Thrashers 3

UNIONDALE, N.Y. — Sean Bergenheim, Blake Comeau and Jack Hillen each scored their first goals of the season to help the New York Islanders beat the Atlanta Thrashers 6-3 on Saturday night.



Maple Leafs 5, Red Wings 1

TORONTO — Phil Kessel scored his first goal with Toronto and Jonas Gustavsson made 35 saves to lead the Maple Leafs to a 5-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night.



Devils 3, Senators 2

OTTAWA — Zach Parise and David Clarkson each had a goal and an assist on the power play, and the New Jersey Devils won their eighth straight road game with a 3-2 comeback victory over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night.
