City and state police along with the state Attorney General's Office are investigating a police involved shooting on Park Street.

The shooting took place late Sunday night during a motor vehicle stop near the intersection of Granger and Park streets, according to state police who issued a statement on the investigation late Monday afternoon.

After stopping a car at the intersection, city police Officer Frank Post and Cpl. Andrew Todd noticed that an occupant in the car, 22-year-old Tyshawn L. Plowden, had a handgun tucked into the waistband of his pants.

When ordered out of the vehicle, Plowden allegedly fled on foot pursued by Post and his canine companion, King Bricks.

During the pursuit, police said the sound of a gunshot was heard coming from Plowden's direction. Post returned fire but did not hit Plowden, who managed to escape.

Plowden was later found at a home in the city where he was arrested and later charged with aggravated assault. Police say other charges may follow.

The Rutland County State's Attorney Office is working with the Attorney General's Office to conduct an investigative review of the incident, police said.
