CASTLETON — Castleton State College announced the hiring of Rutlander Scott Dikeman as the Director of Spartan Arena on Thursday. Dikeman beat out more than 200 applicants to become the director of the facility, which Castleton purchased in July.
"Scott's proven ability to work with the members of the Rutland community is a huge asset for Castleton," Deanna Tyson, Castleton State College Associate Dean for Athletics and Recreation, said. "He is exactly what we were looking for when we began the search: someone with a proven background in business, a passion for excellence, and the ability to provide proven leadership to the staff at the Spartan Arena.
"Scott's first-hand business experience will give all of our student workers and interns an excellent resource to tap into as they further their education at the arena."
Dikeman has been a highly successful businessman for nearly 25 years in the Rutland community. With a majority of his experience coming in commercial finance, Dikeman has the proven ability to manage and oversee the arena as well as promote it to a variety of constituencies.
His strong ties with the Rutland community will be highly beneficial to Castleton's continuing efforts to provide the area with a safe and viable arena for recreation and more.
"Scott is well known and respected in our region, and we are honored to have him at the helm," said Castleton President David Wolk. "He is a well-respected Rutland native who loves, and is committed to, our community. We welcome Scott as our newest member of the Spartan family."
"I am just excited to be a part of the team here at Castleton," Dikeman said. "From President Wolk, to Deanna, to all of the Castleton staff, I truly am just proud to be a part of the momentum that they have created here."
Dikeman was most recently the Vice President of Corporate Banking for Merchants Bank in Rutland, managing a $25 million loan portfolio in the Rutland region.
Prior to his time with Merchants Bank, Dikeman was the Vice President of Commercial Banking for Factory Point National Bank in Rutland. Again, under Dikeman's leadership the bank thrived and led to the construction of a new full-service location as well as the purchase of a second full-service location.
Dikeman will officially start on Dec. 7 but has already begun getting a feel for the arena and its inner workings. "I can't wait to dive in and help maximize the potential of the Spartan Arena as an integral part of both the Rutland and Castleton communities," he said.
The Spartan Arena will host its first Castleton hockey game when the women's team takes the ice tonight. A grand opening is planned for Nov. 20 when the Spartans host a women's game at 4 p.m. and a men's game at 7 p.m.
