HINESBURG — Shirley M. Parker, 85, formerly of Tinmouth, died Nov. 19, 2009, at her residence.

She was born July 26, 1924, in Rutland, the daughter of Leon L. and Edna (Lyman) Parker, the youngest of 12 children.

She graduated from Rutland High School in 1942.

Ms. Parker was employed for 15 years in the insurance industry, then 10 years with the U.S. Forestry Service as a secretary, retiring in 1984. She received several awards for her work. She also took care of her mother for 20 years.

She was a member of the Vermont 251 Club, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), David's House, Rutland United Methodist Church, Tinmouth Community Church; was active in several church groups and a Meals on Wheels volunteer.

She enjoyed skiing, hiking, gardening, music and bowling.

Survivors include a sister, Florence Beebe of Rutland Town; a brother, Warren Parker of Florida and New Hampshire; several nieces and nephews including Donald Lewis who was her caregiver.

There will be no public calling hours or funeral service.

Burial will be in West Pawlet Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Aldous Funeral Home.
