MILFORD, Del. — Claude Grant "Scotty" Johnston, age 94, of Milford, Delaware, formerly of Springfield, Vermont, died on November 17, 2009, from cancer.

Scotty was born on January 3, 1915, in Craigo, Logie Perth, Scotland, and immigrated to the United States with his family in 1923.

He graduated in 1932 from Stevens High School in Claremont, N.H., where he was captain of the basketball team and treasurer of his senior class.

Scotty moved to Springfield, Vt., where he met and was married to his late wife, Esta M. (Mannette), for 67 years.

He worked for Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield for 39 years and was a member of Crown Point Country Club from its inception until 2004, when he retired from playing golf at the age of 89.

Scotty relocated to Milford, Delaware, to live with his son and daughter-in-law, following his wife's death in 2007.

He is survived by his son, Stuart, and daughter-in-law, Paula, of Milford, Del.; his son, Michael, and daughter-in-law, Barb, of Rochester, Minn.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
