ARLINGTON – A local man is facing a felony charge after police said he was driving under the influence of alcohol on Oct. 17.

Robert F. Thompson Sr., 46, of Arlington, was arraigned in Bennington District Court on Nov. 10 on a felony charge of driving under the influence of alcohol after having more than two convictions for the same offense. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of driving while his license was suspended for being convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Thompson pleaded innocent to both charges.

In an affidavit, Vermont State Police Trooper William Deveneau said he saw Thompson, whom he knew, driving north around 5:20 p.m. on Oct. 17 on Route 7A in Arlington near the intersection with Route 313.

Around 5:45 p.m., Thompson's blood alcohol content was measured at 0.117 percent, according to the affidavit. The legal limit in Vermont is 0.08 percent.

According to court records, Thompson has been convicted for driving under the influence of alcohol in 1994, 1997 and 2001.

Thompson was ordered to observe a 24-hour curfew at his home pending his trial on the charges.
