BENNINGTON A Shaftsbury man was charged with a felony after police said he altered a prescription and attempted to have it filled in October in Bennington.
Timothy J. Brockway, 28, of Shaftsbury, was charged in Bennington District Court on Nov. 10 with a felony count of altering a prescription.
In an affidavit, Bennington Police Detective Peter Urbanowicz said he had been contacted by a doctor on Oct. 6 who said he believed his patient, Brockway, had attempted to alter a prescription for Suboxone.
Urbanowicz said police believe Brockway altered the number of pills on the prescription for Suboxone, a brand-name drug that contains buprenorphine, from 38 to 75 doses.
"I obtained the original prescription and it is more than obvious that the dosage and the number of doses prescribed had been changed," Urbanowicz said.
According to the affidavit, Brockway confessed to altering the prescription and wrote a statement in which he said, "Something told me to alter the script so I would have more Suboxone in hopes that it would help me."
Brockway has a criminal record in New York, according to court records.
Brockway pleaded not guilty to the charge on Nov. 10 and was released without bail.
