It's a match made in maple heaven.

According to Ben & Jerry's, Belmont native and champion snowboarder Hannah Teter fits the profile perfectly — she's blonde and in more ways than one, symbolizes maple syrup through her Hannah's Gold charity and her Vermont origins.

So why not give Teter her own ice cream flavor?

The Burlington-based premium ice cream company didn't see a reason not to.

Hannah Teter's Maple Blondie, a limited batch of creamy maple ice cream with blonde brownie pieces and a maple caramel swirl, is the first delectable dedication from the company to an athlete.

The flavor will appear in scoop shops nationwide by the end of this month and in pints at grocery stores by mid-December, according to a press release from company public relations representative Sean Greenwood.

"We looked at the kind of those folks that make a difference," Greenwood said Friday. "That were a good match for the company … maple is an easy tie for Vermont but we thought it would be great to do it with a Vermonter that makes a difference," he said.

Teter could not be reached for comment Friday, but she told the company she was "amped" to have her own flavor.

"It's great to have support from my home state, and a cool way to further support Hannah's Gold and all the work we're doing in Kirindon, Kenya," Teter was quoted as saying in the press release.

Although the company would not disclose specific amounts, a portion of the proceeds from sales of the batch will go toward Hannah's charity for infrastructure improvements and humanitarian needs in Africa, according to the company.

"Elton John, Stephen Colbert, Willie Nelson … we try to find out what the person has done" to support charitable causes, Greenwood said. "That's something that really excites us."
