CALAIS, Maine — There’s going to be a grand opening ceremony for a new border crossing complex between Maine and New Brunswick.

The formal opening for the 54-acre, $125 million Calais-St. Stephen border crossing is set for Monday.

Top officials from both countries as well as Maine and New Brunswick are expected to attend.

Among those who plan to attend is Maine Sen. Susan Collins.

The project was paid for by the two national governments and the state of Maine and province of New Brunswick.

Officials say that in 2008, 74,000 commercial vehicles and 879,000 passenger vehicles went through the old Calais border crossing.

That site will remain open for noncommercial traffic.
