The Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles has added Rutland as a location where Vermonters can get enhanced drivers' license that can be used for land travel to Canada
Until now the licenses have only been available at DMV's central office in Montpelier.
The enhanced licenses include an embedded chip that make it possible for agents at the U.S. border with Canada to read it electronically.
The licenses can be used instead of a passport or other travel document for people crossing into the United States by land or sea.
Since February, Vermont has issued more than 13,000 enhanced licenses.
People seeking enhanced licenses need extensive proof of citizenship.
