Rutland's secret Santa says he's been keeping busy in recent days handing out cash in holiday cards to unsuspecting city shoppers.

Tucked inside a green card adorned with a Christmas tree dropped off Thursday night in the doorway of the Rutland Herald's newsroom, the mysterious man included a letter saying that he has handed out 15 of the 30 cards he plans to give out this holiday season.

"Fifteen more to go!" the anonymous letter stated.

This marks the third year Rutland's secret Santa has made such surprise holiday deliveries. The cards contain $20 or $50 bills.

"So much darkness pervades our times, but my gift to myself continues to make my heart glad," the most recent letter stated. "I'm thrilled to share in a convergence of goodwill within the community."

Santa, Thank you for your kindnesses. Thank you for giving of yourself at a time when people need not just the money, but the belief that there is good out there. Your monetary gifts will be quickly spent, but the surprise and the kindness of your gift of love will linger long after the holiday.

Thank you for coming to Rutland, and thank you for graciously allowing those who doubt your intentions to air their opinions, while ignoring their rage.

Merry Christmas.

please let us all remember this is suposed to be a season of giving and caring. Is it that you wish that it was you who recieved the money or is it that you wish you were fortunate enough to hand out cash to random strangers. What ever the reasons stop being so negative. Life is extremely tough for so many people right now we all need to absorb the stress and find ways to be positive. I'm so tired of all this negativity. What a waste of otherwise decent lives. Peace out.

What a wonderful story. Dont know why the scrooges have to say anything other than it is great to know there are people out there who do for others without expecting anything in return. What a wonderful man whoever he is must be and i am sure life will reward him for his great deeds. MERRY CHRISTMAS

Maybe the Herald is a sponsor of the "Secret Santa", so they have something to write about. They miss a lot of news they could report on. Good Day,CCF
