BURLINGTON — The Vermont Department of Health has been awarded $2.8 million to track environmental health hazards.
State health officials say the grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will help the departments of health and environmental conservation connect environmental exposures to illnesses.
Tracking data will be used to study such chronic illnesses as asthma, by identifying trends and patterns of its occurrence in Vermont.
Health Commissioner Dr. Wendy Davis says the data will help the state better protect Vermonters by identifying health threats and reducing the time it takes for officials to respond.
