HOLYOKE, Mass. — A 72-year-old Vermont woman whose wheelchair was stolen from her daughter's car at a Massachusetts mall is appealing to common decency during the holiday season for the thief to return her lifeline.

Lucille Riccio of Wilmington, Vt., tells The Republican of Springfield the $1,000 chair, which she got in April and hasn't finished paying for, is the only way she can leave her home.

She's hoping whoever took the chair has a change of heart and returns it. She says she can't afford a new one and her daughter's car insurance won't pay for a replacement.

The wheelchair was stolen from her daughter's car while she was shopping at the Holyoke Mall on Dec. 16.

Police Capt. Arthur Monfette says there are no suspects.

What is wrong with people today, to take someone's wheelchair. You are very low to leave this lady without her wheelchair.
