A Readsboro man with 43 prior motor vehicle suspensions was jailed Saturday after police charged him with his fourth drunken driving offense and other crimes following an alleged domestic fight.

Michael Chase, 36, was held at the Rutland jail for lack of $10,000 after police charged him with first degree aggravated domestic assault, interfering with access to emergency services, DUI-4, driving license suspended and gross negligent vehicle operation.

At about 2 a.m., police responded to a report of a domestic assault in a car on Main Street in Readsboro, according to a press release from State Police.

Police didn't find anyone at the location but received another call from a nearby residence about people arguing loudly.

Upon arrival, police located Chase and a victim, who was allegedly assaulted in the car then thrown from the speeding vehicle, according to police.

The victim tried to call police but Chase took the cell phone and left the victim on a back road, according to police.

His license was suspended in Vermont for two prior DUI convictions and 43 other motor vehicle suspensions, according to police.

READER COMMENTS

The man is 36 years old. Assuming he was first licensed at age 16, that is 20 years of driving. He has had his license suspended 43 times. That averages out to one suspension every 6 months.

When is it time to say enough is enough???
