QUECHEE — A Quechee woman returning from a Rhode Island holiday was within sight of her condo Tuesday afternoon when her car slid off the road into the woods and rolled onto its side.

Dyann Dundulis, 44, a cook at the deli in Quechee, was pronounced dead at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center after Hartford firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to extricate her from the wreckage of her 1999 Chevrolet Lumina on Lyman Batchelder Road, a short distance above the Quechee Fire Department substation.

Neighbors heard the crash just after 6:40 p.m. and immediately called 911.
A member of the Quechee Rescue Squad was on the scene within minutes, but found Dundulis to be unconscious and unresponsive.

According to police, the woman's car crossed the opposite lane and left the north side of the road, sliding down a slight embankment and striking a tree before rolling onto the driver's side trapping Dundulis firmly in the wreckage.
Police said speed and icy conditions may have been a factor in the crash.
