WEST WINDSOR — A New York woman was killed early Wednesday morning while snowmobiling on trails off Churchill Road, according to state police.

Kristen T. Bednar, 30, of East Patchogue, N.Y., was killed when she lost control of a 2002 Yamaha snowmobile and crashed into a tree, police said. An unidentified passenger on the back of the sled was not injured.

Police said Bednar suffered severe head trauma in the crash. Police said the New Hampshire Medical Examiner's office notified them Thursday evening that Bednar had died.

Neither Bednar nor the passenger was wearing proper protective headgear at the time of the crash, police said.

Bednar was first taken to Mt. Ascutney Hospital and then airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

Police said Bednar had come to Vermont with friends and was staying with relatives in West Windsor for the holidays.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.
