Patten paces MSJ to comeback victory

In Townshend, Mount St. Joseph staged a late comeback, with Brianna Patten scoring seven of her game-high 14 points in the fourth period for a 48-47 victory over Leland & Gray in MVL basketball on Saturday.

L&G's Ali Marcucci was at the foul line with no time left after being fouled on a 3-point attempt. She hit two of three as MSJ held on for its second victory of the season.

Marcucci had 11 points and Shelby Nystrom and Alex Morrow eight points apiece for the 3-8 Rebels.

Rutland 50, BFA-St. Albans 40

In St. Albans, Alyssa Moore rang up 14 points, Kelsey Forte had 12 and Liz Douglass 10 to power 10-2 Rutland past the 5-8 Comets.

The Raiders needed a second-half comeback as they trailed BFA 27-19 at halftime. They took care of business, outscoring the Comets 15-6 in the third quarter.

Mill River 60, Woodstock 34

In Woodstock, the Wasps committed 13 turnovers in the first quarter, dug themselves a 23-0 hole and never recovered.

"We're coming out flat," Woodstock coach Rob Chandler said.

Rebecca Day had 13 points and Makayla Stone 11 to fuel the victory. Tiana Barcomb led the Wasps with seven.

Bratt 71, Bellows Falls 19

In Westminster, Taylor Kerylow scored 11 points to help Brattleboro past the Terriers. Mariah Noria and Kelsey Patterson added nine each.

Leading the Terriers were Sarah Dumont with seven points and Melissa Smith and Cani Crawford with four apiece.

Twin Valley 63, Proctor 28

In Wilmington, the Wildcats took coach Buddy Hayford's words to heart when he reminded them that Proctor was within a point of Arlington in a game earlier this week. Arlington handed the Wildcats one of their two losses.

"I told the girls this is a young team but they can be dangerous," Hayford said. "I'm pleased that they heeded by advice and … played real hard."

Sam Bernard had 24 points and Devon Spirka a double-double with 13 points and 12 assists. Alicia Lughney had 12 rebounds to help TV to a 42-20 advantage on the boards for the 10-2 Wildcats.

Megan Carter and Courtney Either had six points apiece for Proctor, 5-8.

Twin Valley will host Rivendell in a boys/girls twinbill on Monday.

So. Royalton 44, Williamstown 33

In South Royalton, the Royals and Williamstown were tied after the first quarter, but South Royalton a five-point lead by halftime and stayed in front the rest of the way.

"We started out slow but we overcame it," South Royalton coach Dennis Cronan said.

Megan Whitcomb led the 11-1 Royals with 11 points and Emma Jozefiak added eight.

Hartford 55, Windsor 43

In White River Junction, Hartford (6-6) outscored the Jacks 26-17 in the fourth period to stop Windsor's eight-game win streak.

Stephanie Parker had 11 of her 15 points in the fourth and Stacey Shellong 10 of her 15. Sarah Illingworth also had 15 points and Mary Hazen did an outsntanding defensive job to hold Windsor's Morghan Farnsworth to two points.

Carlin Hood led the Jacks with nine points.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Rutland 4, Brattleboro 0

In Brattleboro, Erin Reilly had two goals and an assist in Rutland's third straight win.

Chelsea Hill had a goal and an assist and Caitlynn Lemieux a goal for the 8-4 Raiders, who will visit North Country on Tuesday.

Deanna Rodolfy stoped 19 shots for Rutland while Brianna Snow had 29 saves in the Colonels nets.

Essex 8, BBA 2

In, Essex, Sarah Deslandes and Kim Dvorak each scored twice to lead the Hornets past Burr and Burton Academy.

Essex struck early with Deslandes, Dvorak and Taylor Hallowell all scoring in the first period.

Lindsay Norris, Rachel Croce and Julie Pearl also netted goals for the 9-2-2 Hornets with Lindsey Paquette (13 saves) and Hallie Quinn (one save) in net for Essex.

Charlotte Palmer and Hannah Corkum had third-period goals for the 3-10-1 Bulldogs. Meg Chandler collected 11 saves before giving way to Thalia Berard, who had four more.

BOYS HOCKEY

North Country 5, Burr and Burton 1

In Stansted, Que., Trevor Gray scored twice for North Country.

Tyler Coulter, Cade Seguin and Dylan Columbia also scored and Chris Bronson made 18 saves for the 9-2-1 Falcons.

Ethan Edson had the BBA goal with an assist by Connor Leggett. Connor Stewart stopped 29 shots for the Bulldogs.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

College of Saint Joseph 93,

Paul Smith's 73

Doug Childs had 33 points and helped control the boards in the second half as CSJ pulled away from a 45-38 halftime lead.

Brad Drysdale also played a rebounding role and added 25 points. Jamie Rajda had 17 points and Tyler Madison 15 for the 5-11 Saints, now 1-3 in Sunrise Conference play.

CSJ will host SUNY-Canton today at 2 p.m.

Wells 103, GMC 63

In Aurora, N.Y., 9-4 Wells College overwhelmed Green Mountain College in a nonconference game.

Darrell Bullock led the Express with a team-high 29 points. Rui Carmo led the 3-7 Eagles with 33 points and 17 rebounds.

WOMEN'S HOCKEY

UMass.-Boston 8, Castleton 0

In Boston, senior forward Maria Nasta racked up four points, including her third career hat trick, in an ECAC East contest. The Beacons improve to 9-7-0 overall and 7-4-0 in ECAC East play, while the Spartans fall to 3-11-1 and 3-7-1.

Sophomore goalie Leah Hallett turned away 14 shots to earn her third career shutout, while CSC freshman goaltender Katharyn Dembowski made 56 saves.

MEN'S HOCKEY

Castleton 3, Babson 1

In Boston, Lindsey Gullett had two goals for the Spartans, who are 5-0-1 in their last six games. Josh Harris also scored for the Spartans, who got 14 saves from Arthur Hollinger.

Castleton outshot Babson 29-15 and improved to 6-6-3 overall. Babson's Zeke Testa had 26 saves.

Getting assists for Castleton were Dan Martinello, Tyler Atkins, Cody Ayers, Stuart Stefan and Kirk Bolduc.

Middlebury 3, Wesleyan 1

In Middlebury, the Panthers (7-1-4, 4-0-4 NESCAC) maintained their men's ice hockey mastery over Wesleyan (5-7, 2-6).

Chris Brown scored the first two goals of his career, the second with 9:17 left in the game to break a 1-1 tie, and propel the Panthers to their 34th straight game against Wesleyan without a loss.

Norwich 5, St. Anselm 0

In Northfield, Craig Serino scored the game-winning goal midway through the first period, and Ryan Klingensmith stopped all 15 shots that he faced to lead second-ranked Norwich in an ECAC East contest at Kreitzberg Arena.
